Miss Grit releases latest single “Mind Disaster” as a preview of upcoming album “Under My Umbrella”

Miss Grit, the musical project of Korean-American artist Margaret Sohn, has debuted a new single called ‘Mind Disaster,’ offering a preview of their upcoming album ‘Under My Umbrella’ set to release on April 24th.

‘Mind Disaster’ follows earlier singles ‘Tourist Mind’ and ‘Stranger’ and gives listeners another taste of Miss Grit’s unique sound. The track combines captivating drums, choral textures, and synths to create an electronic landscape that mirrors the emotional depth of the song. The lyrics of ‘Mind Disaster’ delve into the overwhelming nature of social anxiety and the struggle to overcome the mental turmoil that accompanies it.

According to Sohn, ‘Mind Disaster’ played a crucial role in defining the album’s overall direction. They describe it as their favorite instrumental on the record and credit a group of talented friends for helping bring the track to life. Collaborators include composer and electronic artist Sae Heum Han (known as mph), producer Luciano Rossi, drummer Preston Fulks, and producer/mixer Aron Kobayashi Ritch, all members of the indie rock band Momma.

‘Under My Umbrella’ will mark Sohn’s second full-length album, following the success of their debut ‘Follow The Cyborg.’ Miss Grit is known for seamlessly blending analog and digital elements, showcasing a mix of guitars and synthesizers in their work. The album was primarily written and recorded in Sohn’s Queens apartment after a rigorous solo tour across North America. Seeking to capture the raw energy of live performances, Sohn took a more instinctive approach to the recording process, resulting in a more authentic representation of their musical expression.

Across the nine tracks on ‘Under My Umbrella,’ themes of anxiety, heartbreak, and self-reflection are featured prominently. The album combines trip-hop atmosphere, dream-pop melodies, and expansive electronic production to create a captivating sonic experience for listeners. Miss Grit’s ability to weave together these elements showcases their talent for intricate musical storytelling and profound introspection in their lyricism.
