Upcoming events in Hailsham and Uckfield to illuminate towns
Two vibrant events are set to light up town centres in Hailsham and Uckfield, offering a free and engaging experience for families to enjoy. These events will feature illuminated street theatre, live music, storytelling, and creative activities aimed at bringing communities together in a celebration of culture and creativity.
Commissioned by Wealden District Council and produced by 18 Hours, the Springle events promise to transform Hailsham and Uckfield with a range of exciting activities for all ages. The festivities kick off on April 18th in Hailsham, where the bustling High Street will serve as an outdoor stage. Audiences can expect to be dazzled by the enchanting performance of ‘Lampadophores’ presented by the French street theatre company Picto Facto. This spectacle will feature illuminated inflatable puppets, live music, and acrobatic performers creating a magical atmosphere for all to enjoy.
Cllr Rachel Millward, lead councillor for community, culture, and communications for the Alliance for Wealden (Green Party) and deputy council leader, expressed her enthusiasm for Springle, highlighting the event’s ability to inject new life into town centres. She emphasized the importance of providing families with the opportunity to witness live performances and explore familiar spaces in a fresh and exciting way, making culture more accessible to the wider community.
The festivities continue on April 25th in Uckfield’s Luxford Field, where a family-friendly celebration will take place from 11.30am to 3pm. Attendees can look forward to a range of entertainment, including walkabout theatre, music, storytelling, and creative workshops. The day will culminate in a vibrant community parade, bringing everyone together in a joyous display of unity and creativity.
