Sinawe’s lead vocalist, Kim Bada, whose real name is Kim Jung-nam, narrowly escaped detention after facing accusations of possessing and using marijuana. Despite avoiding arrest, he recently received news that his upcoming appearance at a rock festival has been canceled.

The Chuncheon District Court’s Sokcho Branch, led by Judge Jo Yak-dol, made the decision to reject the arrest warrant for Kim on March 10. The warrant, which was sought based on violations of the Narcotics Control Act, was dismissed due to insufficient evidence supporting the need for detention. Judge Jo Yak-dol explained that there was a lack of grounds for detention, such as the risk of flight or destruction of evidence.

Kim’s encounter with the law occurred on March 8, where he was apprehended by the police around 8:30 p.m. in downtown Sokcho. Authorities had been monitoring Kim for approximately two months following intelligence reports related to the case. Although Kim admitted to the charges during police interrogation, he opted to remain silent when faced with questions from reporters at the pretrial detention review.

Initially, Kim was set to perform at the Seoul Hero Rock Festival on April 25-26 at the Oil Tank Culture Park in Seoul’s Mapo District. However, the festival organizers made the decision to cancel his appearance upon learning of the marijuana allegations, leading to public disappointment. It was revealed that this wasn’t Kim’s first run-in with the law, as he had previously been caught smoking marijuana in 2010.

Kim Bada joined Sinawe, a renowned rock band, as its fifth vocalist in 1996 and remained an active member until 1999. Throughout his music career, he ventured into bands like Butterfly Effect, Ratios, and Art of Parties. In 2015, he reunited with Sinawe and performed at the “Sinawe Comeback Concert: The Complete Lineup” in July of the same year, showcasing his enduring passion for music despite the setbacks he faced.

The legal proceedings surrounding Kim’s case shed light on the challenges that he currently faces, both professionally and personally. While he managed to evade detention this time, the repercussions of his actions have led to the cancellation of his festival appearance, showcasing the impact of such allegations on his public image and career in the music industry.
