Tedeschi Trucks Band Welcomes Cyndi Lauper and Others at the Beacon
Tedeschi Trucks Band had another memorable performance as their marathon run in March at New York’s Beacon Theatre continued. During their seventh show of the residency, the band treated fans to an array of guest musicians, including some unexpected appearances. Furthermore, they took this opportunity to showcase tracks from their newly released album, Future Soul, which they played in its entirety at the Beacon, featuring five selections from the LP on Saturday.
One of the standout moments of the evening came in the second set when Cyndi Lauper graced the stage with Tedeschi Trucks Band to perform a rendition of Hambone Willie Newbern’s “Roll and Tumble Blues.” Lauper, who resides in New York, has long expressed her admiration for Susan Tedeschi, even extending an invitation for Tedeschi to join her band. Their collaboration at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in November for a special rendition of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends” paid tribute to their shared influence, Joe Cocker, who famously popularized the song. The all-star lineup also included Nathaniel Rateliff, Chris Robinson, Teddy Swims, and Bryan Adams.
The guest appearances did not end there, as Nico Bereciartua, known for his guitar work with The Black Crowes since 2023, later took the stage to join Tedeschi Trucks Band for a performance of Sleepy John Estes’ “Leaving Trunk.” Bassist James Genus, a current member of the SNL band, also made a guest appearance during the second set, contributing to renditions of “Hero” and Dr. John’s “I Walk on Guilded Splinters.” The night concluded with the band’s encore performance of Joe Tex’s “Show Me,” featuring Genus back on stage.
To further engage their audience, Tedeschi Trucks Band will debut their film, The Garden Party at MSG, today at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl, ahead of their upcoming return to the Beacon Theatre on Wednesday.
The setlist for Saturday’s performance at the Beacon Theatre in New York included a diverse mix of songs ranging from “Crazy Cryin'” to “Bound for Glory” in the first set, while the second set featured collaborations with guest artists like Cyndi Lauper, Nico Bereciartua, and James Genus on tracks such as “Roll and Tumble Blues,” “Leaving Trunk,” and “Show Me.”
Tedeschi Trucks Band’s ongoing residency at the Beacon Theatre has been a treat for fans, with each show bringing new surprises and exceptional musical moments. The group’s ability to seamlessly blend their original material with classic covers and guest appearances demonstrates their versatility and enduring appeal in the music scene.
