Static Dress collaborate with Underoath on “Nostalgia Kills” video, announce new album “Injury Episode”
o a classic car, where some people look at it and just go, ‘Yeah, cool, it’s a car,’ but some people look at that and go, ‘That is the best thing ever.’
Appleyard at one point in the chat lamented the current state of the music industry and the increased push for quantity over quality in the age of immediacy:
“People are making songs rather than creating music. The most fun part about music is performing. I feel like that’s completely missing from a lot of guitar music nowadays because everyone’s like, ‘I’m just gonna write a hit for radio or TikTok.’ I feel like you can just fully tell – everyone’s song sounds the same, everyone goes to the same producers, so what comes out of it is the same, regurgitated ideas. I’m like, ‘This is so ass because no one has any individual ideas anymore.’”
Mid-July will see Static Dress head out across the U.S. opening for Motionless In White, Lorna Shore and Fit For A King on ‘The Sweat And Blood Tour‘.
Static Dress‘ latest song “Nostalgia Kills” features members of Underoath, a gold-certified metalcore band. The collaborative music video sees Static Dress joined by vocalist Spencer Chamberlain and drummer/vocalist Aaron Gillespie from Underoath. Co-directed by Zak Pinchin and Static Dress’ own Oli Appleyard, the video showcases the growth of the band’s members both individually and collectively.
According to Appleyard, working with Underoath on “Nostalgia Kills” was a significant milestone for Static Dress. The track will be part of their upcoming album “Injury Episode”, set to be released by Sumerian Records on May 29th. The band’s first interview about the album, featured on Kerrang!, sheds light on the album’s production process. Erik Bickerstaffe from Loathe produced the album, which features a conceptual storyline revolving around two characters known from the recent music videos.
Appleyard emphasized the depth and quality of their new record, comparing it to a classic car that stands out for its excellence, unlike the disposable nature of today’s music focused on instant gratification and chart success. He expressed disappointment in the industry’s shift towards creating generic songs for quick consumption, lacking true artistry and individuality in music production.
Static Dress is gearing up to hit the road in July as part of ‘The Sweat And Blood Tour’, supporting Motionless In White, Lorna Shore, and Fit For A King. The tour promises to be a dynamic showcase of their musical evolution and live performance prowess. Stay tuned for more updates on Static Dress and their highly anticipated album “Injury Episode”.
