Toronto welcomes the world’s inaugural professional curling league
The world’s premier professional curling league has made its debut in Toronto, bringing together Olympic teammates for an exciting showdown, with top international talents gracing Canadian ice rinks, and mixed-gender teams from around the world competing in a thrilling inaugural season.
Established by The Curling Group in 2025, The Rock League comprises six geographically diverse teams, with two hailing from Canada, two from Europe, one from the United States, and one from the Asia-Pacific region. Each team is given a name that reflects the unique landscapes of their locations.
With a ten-player roster consisting of five men and five women per team, the league’s 2026 debut season promises intense competition over a week of matches leading up to the playoffs on April 12th. The timing of the league’s launch right after the 2026 Winter Olympics was a strategic decision, as per Olympic medalist and Curling Group strategic advisor Jennifer Jones.
“The Olympics always provide a significant boost to sports. Curling enjoys tremendous popularity during the Winter Games, attracting viewers from across the globe,” Jones explained. “Following the Olympics, there is heightened interest in curling, with new fans emerging worldwide. Hence, it made perfect sense to unveil the professional league immediately after the sport’s Olympic showcase in February, when it captivated audiences globally.”
