Kurt Vile reveals upcoming album success in Philadelphia

The creation of the album spanned from late 2023 to early 2026, during which Vile described the process as existing in a state of inspiration. The album serves as a heartfelt tribute to the city he has always called home, even as his career led him to various places around the globe. Vile expresses his sentiment, stating that this record is akin to his personal ‘bringing it all back home to Philly’ project. He approaches this album with the mindset of it being his final piece, pouring his heart and soul into its creation.

While Vile traveled to different locations for recording sessions in Memphis, Los Angeles, and Athens, a substantial portion of the album was produced in his home studio in Mt. Airy. The album, for the most part, was self-produced, with some assistance from Violators bassist Adam Langellotti and his longtime collaborator Rob Schnapf. Vile emphasizes that this LP marks his return to his roots of recording at home while achieving a higher level of sound quality. He mentions that the album strikes a balance between not being overly polished yet still exuding a significant shimmer in its production.

The lead single and music video ‘Chance to Bleed’ have been released, featuring guest vocals from Natalie Hoffman, Ethan Buckler, and Greg Cartwright. Describing the song as ‘hillbilly techno,’ Vile sees it as a tribute to the old-time, lo-fi, DIY rock ‘n’ roll nights that have inspired his musical journey. The accompanying video, shot at Philadelphia’s Kung Fu Necktie, includes appearances by comedian Jim E Brown and native rapper Schoolly D, adding a personal touch to the visuals.

Additionally, the cover art for the album is a previously unseen photograph by the late William Eggleston, passed on to Vile by the photographer’s son, Winston. The image captures a weathered bar sign in Memphis, resonating with Vile as a timeless and universal message that goes beyond physical locations and eras.

Looking ahead, Vile has announced a 2026 world tour, with scheduled dates in the UK, including performances at End of the Road festival in Dorset and multiple concerts in cities like Bristol, Brighton, London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Leeds, promising fans an opportunity to experience his music live in various venues.

The album’s tracklisting, titled ‘Philadelphia’s Been Good to Me,’ includes tracks like “Zoom 97,” “99 BPM,” “Rock ‘o Stone,” “You Don’t Know Cuz It’s My Life,” “Chance to Bleed,” “Philly’s Been Good to Me,” “99th Song,” “Red Room Dub,” “Every Time I Look at You,” “Piano for Sarah,” and “Avalanches of Snow,” offering a diverse and captivating musical journey for listeners to enjoy.
