Kurt Vile’s Music Video “Chance To Bleed” Now Available
Kurt Vile, the prolific singer-songwriter, has always been closely tied to his hometown of Philadelphia. Despite achieving international success and performing at prestigious festivals worldwide, he has remained rooted in his Mt. Airy basement studio, lovingly referred to as OKV Central, surrounded by vintage analog equipment and his vast record collection. His upcoming album, “Philadelphia’s Been Good to Me,” set for release on May 29 under Verve Records, reflects Vile’s deep connection to the city that has shaped his music career.
The lead single, “Chance to Bleed,” showcases Vile’s signature style, which he describes as “hillbilly techno,” a blend of old-school lo-fi DIY rock and roll aesthetics. Recorded with his band The Violators in Athens, Georgia, the track features guest appearances from Memphis music icon Greg Cartwright of Reigning Sound on lead guitar, alongside vocals from Natalie Hoffman and Ethan Buckler of Slint. The accompanying music video, filmed at Fishtown’s Kung Fu Necktie, includes cameo appearances from notable personalities like comedian Jim E Brown and the legendary Schoolly D.
Vile describes “Philadelphia’s Been Good to Me” as a record that encapsulates his heartfelt return to his roots in the Philly music scene. He poured his heart and soul into every aspect of the album, making it his most personal and authentic work to date. Collaborating with a talented team of producers and musicians, including Adam Langellotti, Matthew Jugenheimer, and Rob Schnapf, among others, the album was meticulously crafted over several years, blending Vile’s melodic ideas recorded on the road with full-fledged studio arrangements.
Throughout the record, Vile’s distinctive guitar work shines, particularly on his trusty hollow-body Gretsch Tennessean, previously owned by Travis Good of The Sadies.
