1994 Hit Sparks Iconic Rock Career, Now a Modern Classic

On the historic day of April 11, 1994, the renowned British rock band Oasis unveiled their very first single, “Supersonic”. While this track achieved moderate success in their homeland, it garnered even greater recognition in the United States, climbing to the noteworthy position of No. 11 on Billboard’s Modern Rock chart.

At the time of the song’s release, Oasis was still a relatively obscure band. It was not until the album Definitely Maybe hit the shelves about five months later that Oasis catapulted into global stardom and became a household name.

“Supersonic” was penned by the band’s lead guitarist, Noel Gallagher, and recorded in a remarkable single day, featuring the unmistakable lead vocals of his brother, Liam Gallagher. Since its launch, Definitely Maybe has solidified itself as one of the most iconic debut records ever crafted, earning a spot on Rolling Stone’s list at No. 65. The album ingeniously intertwined the evolving Britpop sound of the era with classic rock influences and gritty, grunge-like guitar tones.

Oasis’ subsequent album, (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, soared to the top of charts worldwide, shattering sales records instantaneously.
