Dogstar, a Los Angeles alternative rock trio consisting of Keanu Reeves, Robert Mailhouse, and Bret Domrose, has recently unveiled their latest single “Joy” from their upcoming fourth studio album titled “All In Now,” scheduled for release on May 29 through Dillon Street Records. Produced by Nick Launay, the album marks their return to the music scene after a twenty-year hiatus.

The track “Joy,” accompanied by a music video directed by Carlos Garcia Medina, is a testament to the band’s resurgence, following their 2023 comeback album. Guitarist and vocalist Bret Domrose revealed that the song incorporates “ethereal, dreamy reverb guitar” with the use of a vintage Gibson ES335 hollow body, opening up new possibilities for exploration in their sound. Drummer Robert Mailhouse described the track as a progression from moodiness to power, showcasing a unique lyrical interpretation of joy.

“All In Now” signifies Dogstar’s evolution as a band, embracing studio experimentation under Nick Launay’s guidance, renowned for his work with notable acts like Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds and Idles. The album represents a departure from their previous work, showcasing an expanded sonic palette while staying true to their core identity. The collaboration with Launay underscores the band’s commitment to reinvention and growth in their music.

The band members, Domrose, Mailhouse, and Reeves, expressed their excitement for the upcoming release, describing the recording process as direct, energetic, and urgent. Their creative synergy shines through in the album, reflecting a newfound enthusiasm for their craft after reuniting and embarking on a successful touring cycle.

The music video for “Joy,” directed by Carlos Garcia Medina, complements the atmospheric nature of the track, highlighting the band’s focus on mood-driven composition and visual storytelling. The visual elements align with their artistic vision, creating a cohesive experience for their audience.

Dogstar’s journey began in Los Angeles in the early 1990s, garnering a dedicated following through international tours and opening for major acts during their initial tenure. After a hiatus in 2002, the band members pursued individual projects before reuniting in 2020 for informal jam sessions that led to a renewed creative spark.

With the release of “All In Now,” Dogstar aims to solidify their status as a serious musical entity, transcending any novelty associations tied to Keanu Reeves’ acting career. The band’s commitment to their music and their fans is evident in their extensive touring schedule, spanning across the UK, Europe, and North America. The album cycle promises to be a transformative chapter for Dogstar, elevating their second era of activity to new heights.

The global tour dates announced for Dogstar indicate a rigorous performance schedule that will see them sharing their music with audiences worldwide, including appearances at prestigious festivals and iconic venues. With “Joy” as a preview of what’s to come on “All In Now,” Dogstar is poised to captivate listeners with their evocative sound and compelling storytelling, inviting fans old and new to join them on this musical journey.
