After making a lime-green phenomenon with her last album “Brat,” Charli xcx is taking a different turn with her upcoming eighth record. In an interview with British Vogue, the pop singer shared that her new album will be a departure from the dance beats and Auto-Tune of her previous work. Teaming up with “Brat” producers A. G. Cook and Finn Keane, Charli is exploring a guitar-centric sound that showcases her raw vocal talent. Described by British Vogue as a “rock reinvention,” one of the songs on the album features the lyrics, “I think the dance floor is dead/ So now we’re making rock music.”

Charli expressed her excitement about this shift to a rock-inspired sound, mentioning that she finds it fun to challenge the norm. Acknowledging that there will be critics who may not approve of her new artistic direction, she confidently stated, “We know there’s gonna be people who are bothered by it, but that’s fine.”

While Charli’s upcoming album does not yet have a title or release date, she recently revamped her social media profiles, hinting at the start of a new era. Following the global success of “Brat” and the release of her mockumentary “The Moment” earlier this year, Charli felt compelled to distance herself from the dance music scene that had defined her career. Reflecting on the creative process, she mentioned, “If I’d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad.” Charli added that they approached creating the new album from a unique perspective, infusing elements of rock while ensuring that the music maintained their signature style and avoided traditional machismo.

In addition to her music career, Charli has also found success in acting, which served as a welcome distraction during the intense touring and festival circuit following the release of “Brat.” She shared that one of the songs on the album explores her passion for acting and how it allows her to tap into a side of herself that is new, daring, and sometimes intense. Embracing the spontaneity and unpredictability of acting, Charli revealed, “You’re not thinking one step ahead, or at least I’m not. It’s a very impulsive state to be in.”

Considering the future, Charli mused about her experiences performing in arenas and expressed uncertainty about whether she would return to that stage. Despite the success and glamour of arena tours, she acknowledged that the novelty wears off after a while and hinted at a potential shift in her career trajectory.

As Charli xcx delves into this new chapter of her music career, fans can anticipate a bold and innovative approach to rock music that reflects her artistic evolution. Breaking away from the constraints of traditional genres, Charli is set to mesmerize audiences with her authentic voice and creative vision.
