Drowning Pool marks 25 years of ‘Sinner’ with special reissue and bonus tracks
Craft Recordings is preparing to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Drowning Pool’s first album, Sinner, with a special release on June 5. This commemorative edition will include a reissue on limited-edition vinyl as well as an expanded version available for streaming. Originally unveiled in 2001, Sinner quickly achieved platinum status and holds the distinction of being the only studio album to feature the band’s original lead vocalist, Dave Williams.
True vinyl aficionados will have the opportunity to acquire the sea ink swirl pressing, while Revolver magazine offers an exclusive clear smoke variant, with a purple smoke edition available for purchase on the band’s official website. Additionally, fans can look forward to three bonus tracks being added to the streaming version of the album: “Bodies (Chris Vrenna’s XXX Tweaker Mix),” “The Man Without Fear” featuring Rob Zombie, and “Break You (Demo).”
Drowning Pool, hailing from Texas, formed in Dallas in 1996 as an instrumental ensemble consisting of guitarist C.J. Pierce, drummer Mike Luce, and bassist Stevie Benton. The band underwent a transformation three years later when Dave Williams joined as the frontman, solidifying their lineup. Following successful tours with acts such as Sevendust, Kittie, and (hed)pe, Wind-up Records signed the group.
Upon its release, Sinner made an impressive debut on the Billboard 200 chart, entering at No. 14 in June 2001. The album’s rapid ascent to platinum certification within a mere three months of hitting shelves attests to its enduring popularity. The lead single, “Bodies,” achieved significant chart success, reaching the Top 10 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart, peaking at No. 12 on Alternative Airplay, and climbing to No. 3 on the U.K. Rock & Metal chart. The track has enjoyed continued exposure through its inclusion in wrestling broadcasts by WWE, ECW, and AEW over the years.
Tragically, Dave Williams passed away in August 2002 due to heart disease. Despite this loss, the band pressed on with new vocalists like Ryan McCombs and Jasen Moreno, releasing a total of seven studio albums since then. In a statement shared with Blunt Magazine, the band expressed gratitude towards their devoted fans for their unwavering support over the past quarter-century and announced plans to perform the entirety of the “Sinner” album during upcoming shows, along with other fan-favorites.
Fans can catch Drowning Pool’s electrifying performances at Welcome To Rockville on May 8 and Aftershock on October 2, in addition to their scheduled tour stops throughout South America and Europe this summer.
