Tucker Carlson is not an ally in the fight against war

Despite his controversial reputation, some liberals are actively encouraging others to engage with Carlson’s anti-war message, praising his views on social media and even sharing links to his content.
Former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau, with a significant following, endorsed Carlson’s entire 43-minute anti-Iran War monologue from a recent episode of his show, prompting others to take notice and share the video. Headquarters Newsroom, a media outlet born from the remnants of Kamala Harris’s failed 2024 campaign, has also celebrated instances where conservative figures like Candace Owens have expressed dissent towards Trump’s actions in Iran. Democratic Representative Ro Khanna even went as far as crediting Owens, Carlson, and Marjorie Taylor Greene for helping prevent a potential disaster by speaking out against the administration’s Iranian policies.
The sudden embrace of these conservative figures, who have long been shunned by the left, raises questions about their newfound role in the anti-war movement. Should liberals welcome individuals like Carlson and Owens into their ranks, or should they maintain their distance for ethical reasons?
The answer to this dilemma is a resounding no. Despite their temporary alignment on the issue of war, figures like Carlson and Owens espouse views that are fundamentally at odds with progressive values. Carlson, in particular, has a track record of promoting divisive and discriminatory rhetoric, making him an unlikely ally for those seeking peace and justice. While it may be tempting to find common ground with individuals who share a similar stance on a particular issue, it is essential to remember that principles and values should not be compromised for temporary alliances.
