Gozu, a Boston stoner/fuzz rock ensemble, has unveiled “Corinthian Leatherface,” its latest single. The song is part of their much-anticipated Gozu VI full-length album, scheduled for release on May 15th via Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records.

Frontman Marc Gaffney shared insights on their creative process, stating, “We wanted something that molded our love for Queens, Queen, and Motown harmonies. Lyrically, I needed an outlet and this was an amazing vehicle to add NOS [Nitrous Oxide] to.” The track’s depth and spirit reflect the band’s journey throughout the writing process.

Gaffney elaborated on the profound emotional experiences that fueled the compositions for their sixth studio album. He shared, “I was pretty roughed up emotionally while writing. I played guitar more in the past two years than ever before. I would work, go to the gym, come home, eat and then play guitar until I went to bed.” These feelings translated into eight compelling tracks produced and mixed by Benny Grotto at Boston’s Mad Oak Studios.

Gozu has been celebrated for crafting tunes with “deep grooves, thick riff mechanics, soulful melodies,” creating a “musical stew that intoxicates the listener, sweeping them into another aural universe.” Gaffney emphasized the band’s mature but enthusiastic approach to music-making, and Gozu VI stands as a testament to their growth and passion for their craft. According to him, the album embraces a more soulful, guitar-driven sound with lyrics that took on a unique life of their own.

Their distinctive blend of intense ’70s-inspired riffs, grunge-esque vocal melodies, and stoner psychedelia elements has reached a pinnacle with Gozu VI. Gaffney noted, “We play music that people can shake their ass to and lyrics that are honest and deal with human nature.” The band is not concerned with being boxed into a specific genre; instead, they focus on delivering music that resonates deeply and moves audiences on a soulful level.

Gozu VI will be released digitally, and preorders are currently available. In celebration of the album’s launch, Gozu will embark on a US co-headlining tour with New York stoner/doom metallers Restless Spirit. The tour kicks off on May 24th in Providence, Rhode Island and concludes on June 27th in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Tickets can be purchased now for the upcoming shows in various cities throughout the United States.
