Beth Orton reveals upcoming album ‘The Ground Above’ with single “Waiting – Stereogum”.

Beth Orton recently unveiled the mesmerizing art-pop track “The Ground Above,” an eight-minute opus that kicks off her forthcoming album set to drop in June. The UK singer-songwriter also released another single titled “Waiting” in conjunction with this announcement.

In crafting The Ground Above, Orton collaborated with a diverse range of talents, such as Nick Hakim, Tom Skinner, Shahzad Ismaily, Sam Beste from Vernon Spring, and an array of accomplished musicians including Chris Vatalaro (Antibalas, Radiohead), Vishal Nayak (Nick Hakim), Paul Butler (The Bees, Michael Kiwanuka), Christos Styliandes on trumpet, Tom Herbert on bass, and guitarist Dave Okumu.

“Waiting” opens as a poignant piano-driven ballad, with Orton crooning, “I’ve been waiting for the hurting to stop, I’ve been waiting for the punchline to drop,” before transitioning into a lively and somewhat cheerful jazzy crescendo. The tracklist for The Ground Above includes not only the title track and “Waiting” but also “Before I Knew,” “Cigarette Curls,” “Celestial Light,” “I’ll Miss You,” “Love You Right,” and “Otherside.”

Orton is set to embark on a tour promoting her new album, with scheduled stops in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York, Somerville, Turners Falls, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Suffolk, Brighton, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Bristol, Norwich, and London. The Ground Above is slated for release on 26th June via Partisan Records.
