New video captures chaos on Front Street night Marine fatally stabbed downtown

Newly released footage provides a glimpse into the chaotic events that unfolded on Front Street when a U.S. Marine lost his life and three others were hospitalized due to separate stabbing incidents.

The Wilmington Police Department reported that the stabbings occurred within minutes of each other, in close proximity on Front St., shortly after 2:00 a.m. on April 5th. One of the incidents involved Davy Spencer, who allegedly stabbed 21-year-old U.S. Marine Daniel Montano and injured two other Marines. Spencer is currently in custody and is facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder. Shortly after this attack, another stabbing took place further down the street, where a 22-year-old woman suffered serious injuries. Jazya Muldrow-Green, 20, was arrested and charged with assault with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Police detailed that the assault on Montano and the two other Marines took place at around 2:10 a.m., with law enforcement officers responding to various altercations in the area during that time. Video footage captured by WECT’s downtown weather camera depicted a scene where crowds spilled onto Front Street after bars closed at 2 a.m. Notably, there was a lack of police presence near the corner of Front and Princess St. At 2:09 a.m., individuals could be seen gathering, and a scuffle ensued with someone falling to the ground, appearing to be injured.

Shortly thereafter, an individual exited a white car parked at the intersection, attacked someone from behind, and then swiftly drove away. The victim, who was attacked, eventually crossed the street after initially remaining on the ground. Despite these events, WPD Lt. Kevin Tully stated that the assault depicted in the video was unrelated to the stabbings, as no reports of physical altercations were filed. Subsequently, at 2:10 a.m., as a group of people ran across Princess Street away from the camera, a car sped off, and first responders began to arrive at the scene.

Around the same time, Jazya Muldrow-Green allegedly carried out the second stabbing up the street. Video evidence captured a large crowd approaching the scene at the intersection at 2:14 a.m. Subsequently, a police car arrived at the location, and about ten minutes later, law enforcement personnel cordoned off the area as a crime scene. Emergency response vehicles, including ambulances and additional police units, were observed arriving on Front St. as the night wore on.

While Wilmington Police Chief Ryan Zuidema declined to address queries regarding the new video, he previously noted that the events leading to the stabbings were more complex than what was captured in the viral footage. He commended the efforts of the police officers, highlighting the challenges they faced that night. The Wilmington Police Department disclosed that investigations into the stabbings are still ongoing, with no additional information available at this time.
