Neil Young, the legendary rock and roll figure, recently completed his new album, Talkin’ to the Trees, with his backing band, the Chrome Hearts, at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La studio. Surprisingly, this album is not even a year old, but Young wasted no time in returning to the studio to create new music. The album features three songs that Young initially wrote back in 1963 during his time playing with The Squires in Winnipeg, before his days with Buffalo Springfield.

In a blog post on the Neil Young Archives, Young mentioned that the new album came together swiftly as they were in need of more material. After recording five new songs, he found himself revisiting unreleased tracks from his archives dating back to 1963. The process of coming up with the new record was surprisingly fast, as Young noted, “The next morning I had a song going through my head and was playing it. I checked it out in the archives and found it was from 1963, unreleased. There were more.” Despite the record being completed and ready for release, the title is still under wraps, but the blog post where Young announced the album was titled “Moon to Moon.”

The idea of a new Chrome Hearts album was first hinted at on April 11 when Young mentioned a summer release with an original analog vinyl pressing. In the same blog post, he urged younger artists, specifically calling out Taylor Swift, to consider going analog. Young emphasized the need for people to hear the difference in sound quality and authenticity. Additionally, he made a bold decision to withdraw his intellectual property from Amazon, expressing his intent to support record stores entirely. Young’s actions reflect his ongoing resistance against what he perceives as corporate domination over society, mirroring his previous move to remove his music from Spotify between 2019 and 2022.

Throughout his career, Neil Young has been a vocal critic of corporate influence and control in society. His passionate stance on supporting traditional record stores and advocating for authentic analog music experiences has been a consistent theme in his work. Young’s dedication to preserving the integrity of music production and the listener experience remains unwavering, as he continues to push boundaries and challenge norms within the music industry.
