Godsmack has been making headlines for its music as well as its retirement talk after the release of their ninth album, Lighting Up the Sky. The band initially hinted that this would be their final album, but recent revelations by frontman Sully Erna suggest otherwise. With a new Live at the Mohegan Sun album set to release soon and a Rise of Rock World Tour on the horizon, Godsmack is far from calling it quits.

Despite guitarist Tony Rombola and drummer Shannon Larkin announcing their retirement from the band after the Lighting Up the Sky tour in April of 2025, Erna expressed excitement about exploring new directions. New band members were recruited, and the group headed out on a successful European tour in 2025. Erna and bassist Robbie Merrill decided to carry on the Godsmack legacy, acknowledging that they still had more to offer to their fans.

The future for Godsmack looks promising, with Erna hinting at a new record possibly arriving in early 2027. The band’s lineup may have changed, but their dedication to creating hard rock music remains unwavering. Erna emphasized that Godsmack’s essence will always shine through, whether they choose to return to their heavy roots or continue exploring different rock styles.

Godsmack will be debuting a new track called “Set Me Free” with Dorothy before kicking off the Rise of Rock tour in May. Erna described the collaboration as a powerful rock song that showcases Dorothy Martin’s unique vocal style. The band is looking forward to sharing this new music with their fans and receiving their feedback during the upcoming tour.

As the Rise of Rock tour approaches, Godsmack is gearing up for the release of Live at the Mohegan Sun, a concert film that captures the band’s emotional final show with Rombola and Larkin. The video not only showcases their performance but also offers fans a glimpse behind the scenes, providing closure for those who have supported the band over the years.

Throughout their career, Godsmack has achieved remarkable success, with numerous chart-topping albums and hit singles. Despite the changes in their lineup and potential shifts in their musical direction, Erna assured fans that the band’s core identity would always remain intact. Whether delivering high-energy rock anthems or exploring a more nostalgic sound, Godsmack is determined to keep rocking for years to come.

With a new record on the horizon, a tour about to kick off, and a legacy of hard-hitting rock music behind them, Godsmack is ready to prove that they still have plenty of fuel left in the tank. Fans can expect a thrilling musical journey as the band embarks on this new chapter in their storied career.
