Hayley Williams Collaborates with Failure on “The Rising Skyline” Song
Failure dropped their latest single, “The Rising Skyline,” on April 21, which features a collaboration with Hayley Williams of Paramore. This track serves as a preview for their upcoming seventh studio album, Location Lost, set to be released on April 24. This partnership marks a departure for the band, as it is the first time they have included a guest artist on one of their songs. “The Rising Skyline” showcases a stripped-down acoustic arrangement, highlighting Williams’ vocals against a minimalist musical backdrop.
Lead singer Ken Andrews expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, stating that while Failure typically does not engage in many collaborations, his friendship with Williams and her unwavering support for the band made this duet a particularly fulfilling experience. The song itself is described as delicate, with Williams’ vocal approach adding a new dimension to the band’s sound. Williams’ presence is not limited to the studio, as she also appears in the band’s recent documentary, Every Time You Lose Your Mind.
The connection between Failure and Paramore is not new. Paramore covered Failure’s 1996 hit, “Stuck On You,” on their 2006 EP, Summer Tic. The camaraderie between Andrews and Williams was on full display last year at an LA benefit concert where they shared the stage. Additionally, Andrews was involved in mixing Paramore’s 2013 self-titled album, and Williams has credited Failure’s 1996 release, Fantastic Planet, as a source of inspiration for the formation of Paramore.
Location Lost boasts a total of nine tracks, with singles like “The Air’s on Fire” and “A Way Down” already in circulation prior to the album’s official debut. The band kicked off their spring North American tour on April 21 at a sold-out album release show in Los Angeles. The tour is scheduled to run until May 20 in Toronto, with supporting acts like All Under Heaven joining them on most dates. Failure is also slated to perform at various music festivals, including Sick New World in Las Vegas on April 24 and Welcome To Rockville in Daytona Beach on May 8.
Looking ahead, the band has announced a fall tour set to commence on Sept. 30 in San Francisco. The tour will encompass cities such as Vancouver, Seattle, Brooklyn, Indianapolis, Denver, and Dallas before concluding on Oct. 30 in Los Angeles. Quannnic will provide support for all fall headline shows. Tickets for the fall tour dates will go on sale on April 24 through Failure’s official website, with most shows during the spring leg selling out prior to the tour’s launch.
