Debut Album “The Breaks” Draws on Years of Shared History
The Breaks, a new collaboration between three accomplished Funk and Soul-Jazz musicians, has recently debuted with their self-titled album. This trio consists of guitarist Eddie Roberts, drummer Stanton Moore, and organist Robert Walter, all well-known figures in the modern music scene.
Drawing inspiration from the late ’60s organ trios and the groovy boogaloo style, The Breaks offer a blend of tight arrangements and spontaneous improvisation that pay homage to their musical roots. Despite being a newly formed band, these musicians have shared a long history of friendship and mutual admiration for each other’s talents. Walter expresses his excitement about working with Roberts and Moore, describing it as a natural fit like slipping into a pair of comfortable, well-worn shoes.
The idea to form The Breaks was born during a music festival in Colorado in March 2025, where the three artists found themselves performing in separate bands. Spontaneously deciding to join forces, they booked a recording session and set the stage for their debut album. Recorded at Marigny Studios in New Orleans in October 2025, the album captures the essence of the city’s vibrant music scene, influenced by the rich musical heritage of New Orleans.
Roberts took on the role of producer for the album, focusing on creating a distinct sound that reflects the band’s vision. His meticulous attention to detail, from mic placements to snare drum sounds, highlights his commitment to crafting a cohesive and immersive listening experience. The album also features guest appearances from talented horn players and a percussionist, adding depth and texture to the band’s sound.
Fans of The Breaks can catch them live at the High Sierra Music Festival in California and the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan. With their infectious energy and dynamic performances, The Breaks are set to captivate audiences and leave a lasting impression on the Funk and Soul-Jazz music scene. Stay tuned for more updates from this exciting new band as they continue to showcase their musical talents on stage and in the studio.
