Prior to returning to Miami last season, Jefferson had previously worked with the program in various capacities, including coaching future NFL defensive backs such as Tyrique Stevenson, Kamren Kinchens, DJ Ivey, and James Williams.
After his tenure at Florida A&M, Jefferson spent two seasons at Jacksonville State under the guidance of Rich Rodriguez. During his time at Jacksonville State, the team achieved significant success, boasting an 18-9 record and capturing a Conference USA title. In addition, Jefferson played a pivotal role in developing top-notch defensive backs, some of whom went on to earn all-conference honors or transfer to Power Four programs. Notably, Zechariah Poyser worked closely with Jefferson at Jacksonville State before transferring to Miami and securing a starting position as a safety for the Hurricanes.
Last season, Terry Jefferson was responsible for overseeing Miami’s nickel position, where he had a profound impact on the defensive lineup. Keionte Scott emerged as one of the Hurricanes’ key defensive players under his guidance, achieving impressive stats including 64 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, five sacks, two interceptions returned for touchdowns, two forced fumbles, and five pass breakups.
