A local couple in Piqua, Miami County, experienced the shock of waking up to find their pickup truck stolen. Deron and Brittnie Yingst discovered their truck missing from Greene Street in Piqua, as seen on News Center 7 at 11:00.

Home security footage captured by a Ring Camera showed the truck parked outside the Yingst’s residence at 4:15 a.m. Subsequently, an hour later, the truck disappeared. A neighbor reported hearing the truck around 4:15 p.m. or shortly thereafter.

When interviewed by News Center 7’s Malik Patterson, Deron admitted his mistake in leaving the keys in the truck. He had brought it home after work, intending to go elsewhere, but ultimately stayed in. He acknowledged, “It’s probably my fault, as far as that goes.”

Following the disappearance of their truck, the Yingsts promptly filed a police report around 9 a.m. that same morning. Brittnie took to social media to alert the community about their missing vehicle, a move that eventually led to a breakthrough.

A stranger contacted Brittnie via Messenger, claiming to have found their stolen truck. Despite initial skepticism, Brittnie made the call and was relieved to discover the man’s sincerity. Within an hour, the truck was returned by the stranger, who even offered $10 for gas and apologized for any inconvenience caused.

New footage captured the moment the truck was returned, revealing the man’s apologetic demeanor and genuine intentions. The couple shared that he had even confessed to using the truck for a bit of off-roading, evident from the mud splattered on the vehicle.

In a positive turn of events, the Yingsts informed the authorities of the truck’s recovery. However, the incident remains under investigation as police work to determine if more individuals were involved. The community’s support and the stranger’s act of kindness in returning the stolen truck exemplify the power of social media and compassion in resolving such situations.
