The 44-year-old mother of three prioritized her performance over a traditional Mother’s Day brunch, highlighting the unique setting of the four-day rock festival that often leans towards metal, punk, and emo genres typically not associated with the sentimentality of Mother’s Day.
At the festival, which coincided with Mother’s Day, Sturm joined both Flyleaf and Breaking Benjamin for a performance on stage. Amidst the predominantly testosterone-driven music environment, she stood out with her passionate vocals and stage presence. In an interview with The News-Journal, Sturm mentioned her own mother, grandmother, and motherhood, reflecting on the significance of family bonds and the healing power of music for individuals from broken families. She shared, “I think of all the mothers and grandmothers that are looking over us, and I want the best for the people in front of me. I have a mother’s heart for them.”

Valenzuela, attending the festival from California with her electrician husband, embraced the opportunity to spend the day with her family while enjoying live performances from bands like A Day To Remember. With their 5-month-old son Eric cradled in a baby wrap, Valenzuela savored the music-filled atmosphere, resonating with their shared love for music on this special day.

Growing up in Pennsylvania with her husband and children, she recalled the struggles of her mother, who was a singer-songwriter, and the financial challenges they faced as a family.
