Tom Seals collaborates with Noddy Holder for new music release
A talented musician hailing from Cheshire has recently collaborated with iconic Slade frontman, Noddy Holder, to create a new song for his latest album. Tom Seals, whose musical journey began in his mother’s backyard in Crewe, found himself filming a series on YouTube during the lockdown, which eventually transitioned into a successful celebrity and live music chat show on Sky TV. It was during this show that Seals and the legendary Black Country artist, Noddy Holder, developed a close friendship.
The concept for the song, titled “Heading for the Heartlands,” was inspired by Holder’s wife Suzan’s novel, Rock and Rose, which explored his affection for Memphis and Nashville, and his journey towards the heartland. Seals shared with BBC Radio Stoke how Holder approached him with the idea, leading to the creation of this special musical piece, now featured on Seals’ new album, Live from London, released just last Friday.
Seals expressed his gratitude for the friendship that bloomed between him and Holder, stating, “Noddy came to me with an idea for a song which was inspired by his wife Suzan’s novel, Rock and Rose, about his love for Memphis and Nashville and heading for the heartland.” Describing their bond, Seals disclosed, “I met Noddy through the TV show and now ridiculously we’ve become best friends and we go out for dinner every week, which is amazing.”
The collaboration between Seals and the well-known Slade frontman has been a source of inspiration for the musician. Reflecting on the experience, Seals recalled, “The lyrics spoke to me in a time where I needed them and here we are.” Excited about the song’s potential, Seals shared, “We recorded it and I’ve been told there’s a chance we might just get it in the official Jazz and Blues charts, which I’m so excited by.”
Slade, a British rock band formed in Wolverhampton in 1966, achieved great success with hits like “Mama Weer All Crazee Now” and the beloved Christmas classic, “Merry Xmas Everybody.” Seals, who has previously shared the stage with music legends such as Jools Holland and Gregory Porter, describes their collaboration as genuine, raw music that encompasses various genres like rock and roll, jazz, blues, boogie-woogie, and swing. He expressed his pride in the song, stating, “It’s live, it’s mistakes and all and I’m so proud of it.”
The unique partnership between Tom Seals and Noddy Holder serves as a testament to the power of music to bring people together from different backgrounds and generations. The blending of their musical talents has resulted in a heartfelt and authentic piece that resonates with listeners across genres and generations alike.
