Primus has unveiled the release of a new special EP called “A Handful of Nuggs,” which is currently available for digital streaming and will be released on a 12-inch vinyl on July 22nd, with pre-orders already open. The EP’s focal point is the track “The Ol’ Grizz,” one of the first new studio recordings featuring drummer John Hoffman. This track showcases the distinct rhythmic chemistry that has long characterized Primus’s unique style, featuring high-speed bass lines, psychedelic textures, and explosive percussion, showcasing the band’s technical precision and off-kilter groove.

In addition to “The Ol’ Grizz,” “A Handful of Nuggs” also includes Primus’s cover of Dio’s “Holy Diver,” performed by Puddles Pity Party, along with two fan favorites from the band’s recent catalog: “Little Lord Fentanyl” featuring Maynard James Keegan and a live rendition of “Duchess (And The Proverbial Mind Spread)” recorded at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, PA.

This announcement comes amidst a busy period for Les Claypool. The Claypool Lennon Delirium’s album, “The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy,” was recently released on CD, with vinyl and digital versions preceding it. This expansive concept album, created by Les Claypool and Sean Ono Lennon, delves into topics like A.I., empathy, mortality, free will, and the perils of optimization at the expense of human emotion.

Additionally, a new animated video piece, in collaboration with Paste Magazine, featuring actor and musician Matt Berry, provides further insight into the surreal visual world of The Claypool Lennon Delirium. Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade is gearing up for the release of “Return Of The Live Frogs: Volume 1” on May 22nd, capturing the band’s improvisational essence and exploratory nature that has captivated audiences for over two decades.

Converging these projects is the Claypool Gold Tour, set to kick off on May 20th, featuring Primus, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, and Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade. This summer tour promises a night of genre-bending music, showcasing Claypool’s diverse musical ventures in one extraordinary evening. The tour spans coast-to-coast, starting in Reno, NV, and concluding in Napa, CA, on July 4th, providing audiences with a rare opportunity to experience the varied musical realms of Claypool’s repertoire.
