Logan Edwards Releases New Song “Isla” on 13th Floor
Logan Edwards, a prominent indie musician from the South Island, was never planning to embark on a solo career. Known for his contributions to bands like The Beatniks, Ani Saafa, and Chump Change, Logan’s musical identity was rooted in collaborative efforts until a writing spiral led him to explore a more personal and introspective path. This shift culminated in his debut solo project, “Belong to Someone Else,” a collection of songs that blend alt-pop, indie rock, and soft folk, capturing a period of self-discovery.
Reflecting on this creative journey, Logan reveals that after years of avoiding writing solely for himself, he felt a compelling urge to express his innermost thoughts and emotions through songwriting in November 2025. The songs for “Belong to Someone Else” were crafted and recorded within a month, showcasing Logan’s deep dive into introspection and self-expression.
“Isla,” the second single from the EP, serves as a cornerstone of the project. Written during a tumultuous period of constant and consuming songwriting, “Isla” offers an intimate, textured indie sound. Inspired by a conversation about a family friend’s divorce and their daughter, Isla, the song delves into themes of innocence, passive misogyny, and personal guilt from past relationships.
Produced by his Beatniks bandmate, Sam Charlesworth, with additional instrumentation from Louis Stevenson on violin and Josh Bottz on piano, “Isla” exudes an organic and lived-in quality. Influenced by artists like Adrianne Lenker and The Backseat Lovers, the track showcases Logan’s musical evolution in a more vulnerable and reflective space.
The accompanying visualizer for “Isla” features unearthed VHS footage of Logan’s sister as a toddler, reimagined through stop-motion lyrics. Speaking about the visual component, Logan emphasizes the importance of his sister in his life and how she has shaped him into the person he is today, making her inclusion in this deeply personal song a natural choice.
Following the release of the lead single “Worry,” a dynamic indie pop-rock track inspired by the sounds of Phoebe Bridgers, Logan’s music quickly gained momentum across alternative radio stations in Aotearoa. “Worry” made notable appearances on various charts, including the SRN charts and NZ’s Radioscope Alt chart, solidifying Logan’s presence in the music scene.
As Logan gears up for the release of “Belong to Someone Else” on June 19th, fans can expect a captivating blend of genres and emotions that reflect his musical journey from collaborative projects to his own solo endeavors. Through his music, Logan Edwards invites listeners into a world of introspection, vulnerability, and artistic growth.
