Tesla to release covers album with Queen track and original song

Tesla is set to release a covers album titled Homage on July 17 through Frontiers Music Srl, featuring 13 covers and a new track, totaling 14 songs in the collection. In a preview of the album, the band shared their rendition of Queen’s 1977 hit “Spread Your Wings.”

Regarding the Queen cover, band member Brian Wheat expressed his admiration for the song, “Spread Your Wings,” and felt it deserved more recognition compared to other tracks on the same album. This homage to Queen also highlights the talents of bassist John Deacon, who is often overlooked despite being a significant contributor to the band.

The release of Homage marks over 40 years since Tesla first started as a cover group before transitioning to their original compositions. It also acknowledges the impact of influential artists like Elvis Presley, Freddie Mercury, and James Brown, who are honored through covers on the album. Frontman Jeff Keith takes the opportunity to showcase his vocal abilities across a range of iconic tracks.

Homage pays tribute to a diverse range of rock legends, including Bob Seger, Supertramp, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, showcasing the band’s appreciation for various styles and eras within the genre. Tesla describes the album as a “thank-you note written in sound” to the artists and songs that have shaped their musical journey.

In addition to the Queen cover, the band has shared their version of Climax Blues Band’s “I Love You,” which has also made it onto the final tracklist. With Jeff Keith on vocals, Frank Hannon and Dave Rude on guitars, Brian Wheat on bass, and Steve Brown on drums, the album features the collective talents of the band in delivering these tributes.

Aside from the album release, Tesla is gearing up to embark on The Return of the Carnival of Sins Tour with Mötley Crüe and Extreme, starting on July 17 in Pennsylvania and concluding on September 26 in Washington. Fans can expect an electrifying live experience as the band performs both classic hits and tracks from their upcoming covers album.
