Cindy Releases New Song “All the Nice People” as 13th Floor Single
Cindy, the Auckland-based garage rock band, consisting of Scott Brown, James King, Gloria Florence, and Jordan Lim, has been making waves in the local music scene for almost a decade. Known for their unpretentious and resolutely DIY approach, Cindy has garnered praise from Rolling Stone AUS/NZ as a band that rewards true music enthusiasts.
Over the years, Cindy has had the opportunity to share the stage with internationally renowned acts such as OFF!, Mean Jeans, Guitar Wolf, Shonen Knife, King Brothers, ALKASILKA, and Watusi Zombie. Their dedication to cultural exchange saw them embarking on tours to Japan in 2018 and 2023. Cindy’s music, including their debut EP in 2018 and subsequent singles like “Big Energy” in 2020 and “B21” in 2023, has resonated with fans and gained significant airplay on alternative radio stations in Aotearoa. In 2025, Cindy collaborated with Sunreturn to release “Big Summer Blowout” and performed at prestigious events like Newtown Festival.
As they gear up for the release of a new album later this year, Cindy recently unveiled their latest single, “All The Nice People.” The track kicks off with a nod to 90s sludge rock, with Gloria Florence and Scott Brown showcasing their harmonies and embracing the processes of collaboration, criticism, and vulnerability. Recorded straight to tape at Earwig Studios by Dareen McShane and mixed and mastered by Steven Marr, “All The Nice People” explores the theme of accepting constructive criticism.
Reflecting on the song, Gloria shares, “I wrote the song about taking constructive criticism. I can be defensive sometimes, but working with Scott and James on this album has taught me to trust their input creatively. This experience of contributing to a band and writing songs for a collective purpose has improved my playing and writing skills. Now, I just need to be more open to feedback in general.”
