Matt Pinfield to Host New Performance Series for Emerging Artists.

California State University-Northridge’s radio station, 88.5 The SoCal Sound, based in Los Angeles, has introduced a new video series titled “The Pinfield Sessions.” This series is hosted by Matt Pinfield, the station’s afternoon host, and features intimate live performances along with in-depth conversations with artists that are recorded at the station studios. The primary goal of the project is to showcase a mix of established and emerging artists while maintaining a strong focus on music, a style that has made Pinfield a well-known figure in the alternative music media world. The launch of “The Pinfield Sessions” marks one year since Pinfield’s return to the station following a stroke, where he now hosts “The Matt Pinfield Show” on weekdays from 4-6pm.

The format of the series will be familiar to fans of Pinfield’s past work on MTV, particularly his time hosting the influential alternative music show “120 Minutes.” Each episode of the new series features a combination of live performances and in-depth interviews aimed at unraveling the creative processes, influences, and current projects of the artists. Program Director Marc “Mookie” Kaczor emphasized that “The Pinfield Sessions” demonstrate Pinfield’s enduring passion for music discovery and artist storytelling, a trait that continues to shine through his work at The SoCal Sound.

The released episodes of the series already include performances and interviews with a variety of artists like Grant-Lee Phillips, Amanda Shires, Spiritual Cramp, Bleachers, and KT Tunstall. Upcoming episodes will showcase performances from Olive Vox, Ollie Wride, Failure, and Lola Bates, with additional installments currently in production. All the artists featured in the series are handpicked and supported by Pinfield, who has had an illustrious career in both radio and television. Before joining The SoCal Sound, Pinfield gained recognition through his work at MTV, where he hosted “120 Minutes” in the late 1990s and early 2000s, further solidifying his place in the music industry.

Aside from his broadcasting accomplishments, Pinfield also spent time as the vice president of A&R for Columbia Records and has stayed active in radio and TV music programming for several decades. “The Pinfield Sessions” and the larger collection of SoCal Sound Sessions are accessible through The SoCal Sound, the station’s mobile app, and its YouTube channel.
