Concertgoer in Missouri dies from head injury after being kicked by crowd surfer at rock festival
A tragic incident occurred at a rock festival in Maryland Heights, Missouri, where a Missouri school secretary lost her life due to severe head injuries sustained when hit in the head by a crowd surfer. The victim, Danielle Uskiwich, aged 28, unfortunately passed away after being accidentally struck on May 16 at Pointfest while attending a performance by Sleep Theory.
Initially, Uskiwich did not think much of the injury, believing it to be harmless. However, three days later, she was hospitalized with an intense headache, leading medical professionals to discover a brain bleed. It was suspected that the brain bleed was a result of the kick to her head by the concertgoer. Throughout her hospital stay, lasting a week, Uskiwich experienced two strokes and had to undergo emergency surgery. During the surgical procedure on May 22, doctors had to remove six pints of blood and several blood clots, during which they discovered an undisclosed underlying condition that might have otherwise remained undetected.
In a bid to alleviate the pressure on her brain, Uskiwich was placed in a medically induced coma while her body tried to recover following the surgery. Eventually, her family decided to honor her wish of being an organ donor, exemplifying her compassionate and giving spirit even in the face of their profound grief. This selfless act allowed for Danielle’s family to give the gift of life to others through organ donation.
In a heart-wrenching tribute, Uskiwich’s loved ones organized a memorable “honor walk” at the hospital to honor her memory. The gesture, although tearful, highlighted the impact Uskiwich had on those around her, known for her warmth, humor, and ability to make people feel seen and valued. Additionally, the family mentioned her enthusiastic support for the St. Louis Blues hockey team, with her favorite player being TJ Oshie, as well as her love for music and travel.
Uskiwich’s life was tragically cut short, just months before she was due to marry her fiancé, Jason, with whom she had shared plans for a wedding ceremony in April the following year. The couple’s dreams of starting a life together were shattered by the unforeseen tragedy that took Danielle away from those who cherished her dearly.
Pointfest, where the incident occurred, is an annual music festival hosted by a local alternative rock radio station, providing a venue for music enthusiasts to enjoy live performances. Featuring headliner Staind among other acts, the festival is a popular gathering place for fans of alternative rock music.
