Charli xcx made it official on Monday that her new album, “Music, Fashion, Film,” is set to drop on July 24. This announcement put an end to a popular fan theory that speculated her album would be named “Ford,” inspired by the automaker from Dearborn, Michigan.

The speculation about the album’s title started when a Charli xcx fan jokingly suggested that the new album would be called “Ford” as a play on words. The fan pointed out that if you reverse “Ford,” it becomes “drof,” which could be interpreted as “brat” in cursive when the classic Ford logo is reversed. Moreover, the British singer has a track record of referencing cars in her music.

From her 2016 EP “Vroom Vroom” to her upcoming album “Crash,” which features her on the hood of a car on its cover, Charli xcx has shown a consistent theme of car references in her work. In fact, a Reddit post from one of her fans identified car mentions in 40 of her songs, further fueling the speculation around the album title.

Charli xcx added fuel to the fire by sharing a picture of a Ford Mondeo on social media, further exciting fans who were convinced that the album would indeed be named “Ford.” However, in a recent conversation with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Charli clarified that despite the fan theories, her album is not called “Ford.” She acknowledged the enthusiasm of her fans and humorously mentioned that she entertained the idea for a brief moment.

While the “Ford” theory may have hit a roadblock, Charli xcx has been actively teasing her new album through the release of two singles, “Rock Music” and “SS26.” The title “Music, Fashion, Film” is derived from a lyric in “SS26,” where Charli sings about the world ending and references the worlds of music, fashion, and film. The album cover features artwork of John Cale, Marc Jacobs, and Martin Scorsese, symbolizing these three creative industries.

Despite the disappointment for fans of the “Ford” theory, Charli xcx’s upcoming album is shaping up to be a unique and exciting project. As she gears up for the release of “Music, Fashion, Film,” fans can look forward to experiencing a new chapter in the pop singer’s eclectic and innovative music career.
