Interview with Gil Moore of Triumph on WPDH
Get ready for an exclusive interview with Triumph’s drummer and co-vocalist, Gil Moore, as he sheds light on the band’s highly anticipated Rock & Roll Machine Reloaded 50th-anniversary reunion tour. This monumental tour is set to grace Jones Beach on Friday, June 5th, promising a night of nostalgia and rock ‘n’ roll magic.
Hailing from Canada, Triumph’s inception dates back to 1975, marking the beginning of a musical journey that would solidify their position as one of the most revered rock bands of the late 1970s and 1980s. Known for their electrifying live performances, the band’s discography boasts an impressive collection of 16 albums and DVDs, earning them a staggering 18 gold and nine platinum awards across Canada and the United States. Their musical prowess did not go unnoticed, as they received multiple Juno Awards nominations, including the prestigious “Group of the Year Award” in 1979, 1985, 1986, and 1987. The industry recognized Triumph’s enduring impact by inducting them into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame in 2007, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2008, and Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2019.
Renowned for their guitar-driven anthems like “Lay It on the Line,” “Magic Power,” “Fight the Good Fight,” and “World of Fantasy,” Triumph captivated audiences with their dynamic sound. While their original claim to fame came from powerful cover songs like “Rocky Mountain Way,” it was their own original tracks that solidified their place in rock history. The band, initially formed in Toronto, boasted a formidable lineup featuring Rik Emmett (guitar, lead/backing vocals), Mike Levine (bass, keyboards, backing vocals), and Gil Moore (drums, lead/backing vocals). This trio recorded Triumph’s first nine studio albums, a period that defined the band’s signature sound until 1988 when Emmett made the decision to pursue a solo career. Phil “X” stepped in as his replacement, and together with Moore and Levine, they crafted the band’s final album to date, Edge of Excess, before embarking on an indefinite hiatus in 1993.
Drawing upon the undeniable chemistry and musical legacy of their classic lineup, Moore, Levine, and Emmett reunited for a series of iconic performances, including appearances at the Sweden Rock Festival and Rocklahoma in 2008, and a triumphant three-song set in Toronto in 2019. Their most recent reunion took place at the 2025 Stanley Cup Final in Edmonton, marking their first public performance in 17 years. Triumph’s resurgence continued with the launch of their first major tour in over three decades in April 2026, showcasing their enduring appeal and timeless rock anthems to a whole new generation of fans.
