Black Label Society’s ‘Name in Blood’ Breaks Record in Top 10 of Mainstream Rock Airplay Chart
Black Label Society has achieved a remarkable milestone in its career by securing its first top 10 position on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart with the hit song “Name in Blood.” After more than twenty years of making appearances on the chart, the Zakk Wylde-led band has finally reached the number nine spot on the most recent survey dated June 6.
The journey for Black Label Society began when they debuted on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart with “Stillborn” back in 2003, peaking at number 12. Prior to the success of “Name in Blood,” “Stillborn” held the record as the band’s highest-charting song. With a total of 14 entries on the chart, including three in the top 20, Black Label Society has proven their durability and staying power in the rock music scene.
The band’s achievement of reaching the top 10 after a waiting period of 23 years, one month, and three weeks is historical, marking it as the longest time gap for any act in the chart’s 45-year history. Surpassing the previous record held by Killswitch Engage, who waited 20 years, eight months, and two weeks between “The End of Heartache” in 2004 and their first top 10 hit “Believe” last year, Black Label Society has made a significant mark in the music industry.
While “Name in Blood” marks Black Label Society’s first top 10 hit on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, lead singer Zakk Wylde had previously tasted success by being featured on My Darkest Days’ “Porn Star Dancing,” which reached number one for two weeks in 2010. In addition, Wylde’s exceptional guitar skills have also been recognized in the top 10 through his role as the lead guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne over the years.
Apart from their recent success on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, Black Label Society had previously achieved a top 10 hit on a Billboard airplay chart with “Stillborn” reaching number three on the now-discontinued Heritage Rock Airplay in 2003. Meanwhile, “Name in Blood” continues to climb on the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, moving from 37 to 31 with 1.2 million audience impressions in the week ending May 28, as reported by Luminate.
“Name in Blood” serves as the lead single from Black Label Society’s 12th studio album, Engines of Demolition, which debuted at number one on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart on April 11. The album has received positive reception and has garnered 51,000 equivalent album units to date, solidifying Black Label Society’s position as a prominent and enduring force in the hard rock genre.
