Key Points: Shelli Sonstein Discusses AI in Radio Sales with SiriusXM’s Johnny Wilde.
Shelli Sonstein, a former morning co-host at iHeartMedia classic rock station “Q104.3” WAXQ New York, continues to show her support for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation after her recent retirement from radio. Sonstein recently led a group of 18 “Q104.3” listeners up the 104 stories of the One World Trade Center as part of the foundation’s annual stair climb event. This marked her 10th climb in support of Tunnel to Towers, and her fundraising efforts have raised over $250,000 for the organization. Tunnel to Towers was established in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks and focuses on providing aid to families of fallen first responders, severely injured veterans, and homeless veterans. Sonstein, who has been a vocal advocate for 9/11 victims and related legislation, completed this year’s climb in 33 minutes and five seconds, ranking second in her age group at 72. Although she retired from radio this year after a 47-year stint alongside Jim Kerr, one of New York’s longest-running morning show partnerships, Sonstein remains committed to doing good and thanked “Q104.3” for their ongoing support.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly crucial role in the realm of media sales operations. To help broadcasters understand how AI can enhance productivity, prospecting, and revenue generation, the Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW) will host a free webinar on July 15 titled “AI in Radio Sales: Work Smarter, Sell More.” This informative session will feature industry experts such as Kelli Frieler of Guaranty Media, Nancy Abramson of Compass Media Networks, and Dara Kalvort of StreamGuys. Moderated by MIW Board Member Meg Dowdy, the webinar will delve into practical applications of AI, including creating proposals and sales pitches, researching prospects, analyzing campaign performance, and implementing AI tools within sales organizations. The aim of the session, according to MIW President Sheila Kirby, is to equip broadcasters with tangible tools and strategies that can be immediately implemented, regardless of market size or prior experience with AI.
