Ani Mari’s latest soft rock and indie folk single titled “Sun-kissed” captures the essence of summer’s carefree spirit and the fleeting moments of joy that come with it. Produced by Chris DuPont and Jack Harris, the song is a preview of what to expect from Ani Mari’s upcoming sophomore album set to be released in August.
Chirp, a band based in Ypsilanti, brings a unique blend of pop, R&B, and funk with their latest single “What’s the Rush?” The track, part of their upcoming album Torque, tells the story of a seed growing into a tree and features horn arrangements by Haruki Hakoyama and keys and synths by Kevin Gastonguay.
Salvador Flores, a classical and jazz saxophonist hailing from Washington, D.C. and a former resident of Ann Arbor, debuts with his 16-track album “Mosaic.” His work combines compositions by prominent musicians like Astor Piazzola and George Gershwin with his own improvised interludes, showcasing the versatility and beauty of the saxophone.
Kenji Lee, a U-M graduate, has found a home in Southeast Michigan’s music scene with his Fortune Teller Trio. Their latest album “Tokyo (Live)” captures the essence of Lee’s roots, with tracks recorded in his birthplace of Tokyo alongside bassist Andy Peck and drummer Jonathan Barahal, resulting in a mesmerizing fusion of sounds that transcend continents.
Teiku, a project by Jonathan Barahal and Chicago keyboardist Josh Harlow, delves into experimental jazz by exploring Passover melodies from their upbringing. Their debut album “Klang,” featuring collaborations with Jason Stein and Jaribu Shahid, offers a unique musical experience that bridges different backgrounds and traditions.
Bekka, a local talent from Ann Arbor, shares her baroque pop single “Good Morning” as a preview of her upcoming EP “Don’t You Got Better Things to Do?” Co-written with her sister Hannah Elisabeth Port, the song reflects on the challenges of living in the U.S., showcasing Bekka’s lyrical and melodic talents.
