Video footage suggests flashes at Southern California Edison towers before Eaton Fire
Surveillance footage recently surfaced showing flashes near Southern California Edison electrical equipment around the time the Eaton Fire began, according to an attorney representing a Pasadena tennis club.
The video, obtained by a lawyer for the Gerrish Swim and Tennis Club, was captured by a security camera on the club’s property. In the top right corner of the recording, viewers can see flashes near the Edison transmission towers located in the nearby hills.
Legal representatives for the club have put forth a theory suggesting that an active electrical line might have energized an inactive line, potentially leading to the ignition of the fire.
“An arcing event occurred on the towers. Molten metal fell to the ground, resulting in the ignition of the surrounding vegetation, which then spread rapidly through the canyon,” explained attorney Paul Starita.
Previously, NBC Los Angeles shared another video filmed on the night of January 7, 2025, which also exhibited flames burning beneath a transmission tower.
Southern California Edison acknowledged that the newly unveiled footage is consistent with the flashes captured in prior videos.
The legal team for the Gerrish Swim and Tennis Club is now scrutinizing the surveillance footage as they gather evidence to support their case.
Members of the community have been on edge following the Eaton Fire and are eager to ascertain the cause behind the destructive blaze. The surveillance footage could potentially provide crucial insights into what transpired leading up to the fire.
As investigations progress, more details are expected to emerge regarding the sequence of events that ultimately led to the outbreak and rapid spread of the Eaton Fire.
In the meantime, residents and authorities remain vigilant, hoping to prevent future incidents of a similar nature and minimize the risk of further wildfires breaking out in the region.
The footage serves as a critical piece of evidence in the ongoing inquiry, shedding light on the potential connection between the electrical equipment and the catastrophic fire that wreaked havoc in the area.
The legal team representing the Gerrish Swim and Tennis Club continues to analyze the footage meticulously, aiming to uncover any details that could substantiate their assertion of an electrical malfunction as the catalyst for the devastating Eaton Fire.
