Blink-182 celebrates 25 years with special edition of ‘Take Off Your Pants and Jacket’
Blink-182 recently unveiled the 25th-anniversary edition of their album “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket” on Geffen Records, commemorating a milestone in the genre of punk rock. This release signifies the album’s enduring impact on the commercial success of punk music.
The updated edition includes an additional six tracks from the original 13-song album, such as “time to break up,” “mother’s day,” “what went wrong,” and others, which are now accessible on various streaming platforms for the first time. In the initial 2001 release, the album was available in three distinct physical versions, each corresponding to one of the three symbols depicted on the cover: a red airplane, yellow pants, and a green jacket. Interestingly, the supplemental tracks had not been consolidated into a single release until this anniversary edition. A special 2-LP vinyl edition, featuring randomly etched emblems on Side D, is available for pre-order.
Initially hitting the shelves on June 12, 2001, under the guidance of producer Jerry Finn, known for his work on the band’s 1999 album “Enema of the State,” “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket” enjoyed an impressive debut by seizing the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart. With over 350,000 copies sold within the first week, it became the first punk rock album to achieve such commercial success. The album also reached No. 1 in countries like Canada and Germany and dominated the U.K.’s Official Rock & Metal Albums chart.
Noteworthy singles from the album, including “The Rock Show,” “Stay Together for the Kids,” and “First Date,” all made significant appearances on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, with several songs climbing into the top 10 positions during the album’s promotional cycle. Featuring prominent band members Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Travis Barker, Blink-182 has garnered immense success throughout their career, boasting over 50 million album sales worldwide and more than 16 billion streams, along with a coveted Grammy nomination in their accolades. Their impressive discography includes best-selling albums like “Dude Ranch” (1997), “Enema of the State” (1999), “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket” (2001), and “blink-182” (2003), all of which have achieved multiple Platinum certifications.
