New music from artists and labels affiliated with Washtenaw County – Pulp (6/26)
The Radar is a unique platform that highlights new music by artists and labels associated with Washtenaw County. In this week’s edition, we feature a diverse selection of music from GVMMY, NoW Trio, Kelsey., Knut Hill, Coñazo, and Spectral Threads.
First up is GVMMY with their latest single, “SOULEATER,” blending hip-hop, R&B, and chiptune elements. Hailing from Ypsilanti, GVMMY’s track is described as a real crowd-pleaser, perfect for a non-stop dance party.
Next, we have NoW Trio presenting their self-titled debut album. Comprised of Ben Maloney on piano, Jeff Pedraz on bass, and Travis Aukerman on drums, the trio showcases their musical prowess with eight original compositions. Engineered by Eric Sills at Stone Soup Recording Studio in Maumee, Ohio, the album also features a tribute to the late Tad Weed with the rendition of his composition, “The Road Leads.”
Moving on to Kelsey., we find the artist captivating audiences with her fifth single, “One Day,” from the forthcoming album, Love Hard. Scheduled for release on August 7, this emotional ballad explores themes of yearning and longing, supported by lush instrumentation and a cinematic sound. Accompanying the single is a poignant video that follows Kelsey. as she navigates a rural setting.
Knut Hill offers a heartfelt tribute to his wife, Meredith, through his single “Dandelion Girl.” Written in 1999 but released years later, the song captures the essence of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the beauty of everyday life. Inspired by the surroundings of Spikenard Farm, the track paints a vivid picture of clover fields, orchard blossoms, and the serenity found in the simple things.
Despite being a disbanded group, Coñazo leaves a lasting impression with their live recording from 2024 at The Regal Beagle in Ypsilanti. Minus9’s Andrew Claydon, who documented the show, reminisces about the band’s impromptu set and the raw energy they brought to the stage.
Lastly, Spectral Threads introduces themselves as a fresh alt-rock trio composed of Samuel Millett, Nathan Emmet Zuellig, and Jonathan Crayne. Based in Inkster, Ypsilanti, and Austin, the band is gearing up for their debut EP with singles like “Addictant,” showcasing Crayne’s dynamic vocals.
