Tim Bowness and The Butterfly Mind collaborate with Bruce Soord and Jon Sykes on new project
Tim Bowness & Butterfly Mind, along with Bruce Soord & Jon Sykes, provided an evening of musical enchantment at the revered 100 Club on Oxford Street in London. As the night began, a lively summer atmosphere surrounded concert-goers as they arrived after enjoying a delicious pre-show meal. The 100 Club, known for hosting unforgettable punk rock events, was looking a bit more polished, losing its old grime and stickiness, although the stage remained in an unusual place, and the pillars loomed large.
Kicking off the evening were Bruce Soord and Jon Sykes from the Pineapple Thief, captivating the audience with their acoustic-to-electric set. Although Pineapple Thief’s music had evolved since its earlier days, the rockier tracks featuring drums on a backing track provided a familiar yet heavier sound, reaching a crescendo with the powerful “Ghosts In The Park.” While the introspective pieces didn’t resonate as strongly with some, the band’s energy was infectious, setting the tone for the night.
Transitioning to the main event, the reunited lineup of Tim Bowness & Butterfly Mind took the stage with newfound confidence and vigor. Tim Bowness, a seasoned songwriter, led the band through a spirited set starting with the unreleased “No Fires Lit Here.” The band showcased a blend of lively tracks like “Time Travel In Texas” and slower, reflective pieces such as “Wherever There Is Light,” interspersed with no-man material that delighted fans. Tim’s witty banter and band introductions added a humorous touch to the performance, complemented by stellar guitar work and drum solos.
The band’s encore featured the poignant “Lost/Not Lost” from Tim’s previous album, followed by a playful “punk” rendition of “Time Travel In Texas” in homage to the historic venue. The band’s refusal to leave the stage, opting to stay for the encore, fostered a sense of camaraderie with the audience, resulting in a memorable conclusion to an enjoyable evening of music.
Overall, Tim Bowness & Butterfly Mind, supported by Bruce Soord & Jon Sykes, delivered a dynamic performance at the 100 Club, leaving concert-goers with lasting memories of a night filled with exceptional music and vibrant energy.
