The 2026 Daegu Chimaek Festival, a staple of Korea’s summer festivities, will kick off a scorching five-day journey around Duryu Park with a grand opening ceremony on the 1st of the upcoming month. This year’s festivity is set to soar as a global extravaganza by showcasing impressive international performances, engaging interactive activities, and cutting-edge AI-operated systems all under the banner of “Chimaek 26 (take-off).”

In an announcement by the Daegu Metropolitan Government, the “2026 Daegu Chimaek Festival Opening Ceremony” is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on the 1st, held at Duryu Park’s February 28 Freedom Square. The star-studded lineup of performances promises to ramp up the festival’s energy with top-tier artists like FT Island (1st), N.Flying (2nd), 10CM (3rd), Onestein and Haengju (4th), and Park Myung-soo and Carda Garden (5th) gracing the circular 360-degree stage set at 2/28 Free Plaza, adorned with the theme of “Daefrica Waterfia.” The main festival hall’s paid seats were completely sold out within a mere 11 minutes of reservations opening, showcasing a remarkable level of public interest in the event.

To further enhance the festival experience, tailored contents for each festival space have been enriched. The February 28 Memorial Tower parking lot transforms into the “Chimaek Ttechang Club,” where attendees can groove to tunes spun by a professional DJ while relishing in K-techang, offering a unique source of entertainment. The Kolon Outdoor Music Hall will host a diverse array of performances including the popular “Chisang Paradise EGG Island,” a top-satisfying attraction from the previous year, along with the “Indie Band EGG Concert” theme envisioned as an indie rock festival. The stage will feature Mount Kkachi (1st), Yeonjeong (2nd), Itz (3rd), and Far East Asian Tigers (4th), promising to elevate the sentiments of early summer nights.

Additionally, a “free priority admission system” will be in place for the 1,000 free seats at the outdoor music halls, granting pre-booked visitors exclusive benefits for smoother entry and an enhanced viewing environment. The festival is set to transform Duryu Park Road into a captivating “K-Chimaek Street,” offering visitors a plethora of experiences ranging from the Chimaek Welcome Road, a Chimaek amusement park, to a vibrant flea market zone, immersing all who enter in the celebratory spirit.

Throughout the festival, a series of engaging events will cater to all five senses, including the “Golden EGG Adventure,” a stamp rally linked to photo zones, the Chimac Pong Challenge (aiming a table ball into a beer cup), and the Chimac Heading Challenge (heading a soccer ball suspended from a post). The February 28 Free Plaza Observatory will play host to a dedicated “Global Lounge” catering exclusively to international tourists, fostering cultural exchanges between visitors from around the world. With over 200 overseas influencer, visiting groups, and sisterhood college students expected to partake in the festival, the event aims to enhance its global appeal.

Through the implementation of an AI-driven festival operation platform, the event provides attendees with vital information, venue-based maps, real-time traffic guidance, and AI chatbot services offered in multiple languages, ensuring a seamless and enriched experience for all participants.
