Barfly, the iconic music venue on Chalk Farm Road, recently made a triumphant return to its original name after a decade as the Camden Assembly. The venue holds a special place in the heart of singer Frank Turner, who performed a memorable double set to a packed and sweaty crowd to celebrate the venue’s rebranding.

During his set, Turner reminisced about the significance of Barfly in his career, recalling that it was the place where he sold out his first gig 20 years ago, marking a pivotal moment in his music journey. A blue plaque was even unveiled to commemorate this milestone on August 8, 2006. Despite the rebranding, the venue has remained largely unchanged, preserving its gritty charm and character that patrons have come to know and love over the years.

Featuring a downstairs bar area and a hot and sweaty performance space upstairs, Barfly continues to uphold its reputation as a hub for live music and community spirit. Turner emphasized the importance of supporting upcoming artists and encouraged the audience to explore the diverse range of acts performing at the venue in the coming months.

With an eclectic lineup that includes both established acts like Inspiral Carpets and Fun Lovin’ Criminals, as well as up-and-coming artists like Car Underwater and Matt-Felix, Barfly promises to deliver memorable performances for music lovers of all tastes. Over the years, the venue has hosted a plethora of legendary artists, including Amy Winehouse, Coldplay, Muse, and many more, solidifying its status as a breeding ground for musical talent.

Co-owner Dan Ickowitz-Seidler expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the public and highlighted the importance of preserving the venue’s legacy as they embark on this new chapter. The relaunch of Barfly has been met with enthusiasm and nostalgia from patrons and artists alike, with Turner’s performance serving as a fitting tribute to the venue’s rich history and its continued commitment to supporting grassroots music.

As Barfly sets its sights on the future, music enthusiasts can look forward to a diverse array of performances, from intimate showcases to high-energy gigs that promise to captivate audiences. Whether it’s a new discovery or a familiar favorite, Barfly remains a vital institution in London’s music scene, offering a platform for artists to shine and audiences to revel in the magic of live music.
