A Place To Bury Strangers and Die Anstalt heading to Brighton
A Place To Bury Strangers, often abbreviated as APTBS, originated in New York City in 2002, representing a unique blend of noise rock, shoegaze, and space rock, creating an intense, atmospheric Wall of Sound. Even before the release of their debut album, the band gained a reputation as the “loudest band in New York”. Comprised of Oliver Ackermann on guitar and vocals, John Fedowitz on bass guitar, and Sandra Fedowitz on drums, the trio has captivated audiences worldwide.
Oliver Ackermann, the frontman of A Place To Bury Strangers, is recognized for his artistry and innovation, seamlessly intertwining post-punk, noise-rock, shoegaze, psychedelia, and avant-garde elements. Besides his musical endeavors, Ackermann founded Death By Audio and developed signal-scrambling stomp boxes and groundbreaking instrument effects. His imaginative prowess has influenced countless artists who have embraced his unconventional creations. A Place To Bury Strangers’ live performances are renowned for their mesmerizing quality, enveloping listeners in a transcendental sonic experience filled with unexpected twists and audacious breakthroughs.
Contrary to his contemporaries who may be tapering off in their creative output, Ackermann’s inventiveness continues to flourish. He recently established his own record label, Dedstrange, dedicated to supporting radical music-makers globally. By infusing fresh talent into the group, like bassist John Fedowitz and drummer Sandra Fedowitz, A Place To Bury Strangers has elevated their sound to new levels, striking a harmonious balance between audacity and melodic accessibility.
The release of their ‘Hologram’ EP, the band’s first under Dedstrange, was met with resounding acclaim. Critics have lauded A Place To Bury Strangers for pushing musical boundaries and establishing themselves as a force within the industry. The band’s discography encompasses seven albums, with ‘Rare And Deadly’, a compilation album offering a glimpse into the band’s creative process and experimentation.
Embarking on a tour next month, A Place To Bury Strangers will grace Brighton’s Concorde 2 on Monday, August 24th, supported by Die Anstalt. Die Anstalt, a synth-punk trio hailing from Berlin, has signed with City Slang, presenting a reissue of their self-titled debut album. The band’s unique blend of early EBM, synth-punk, and post-punk resonates with the raw energy of Berlin’s underground scene, drawing parallels to iconic acts like Malaria!, Boy Harsher, DAF, and Xmal Deutschland.
Die Anstalt’s theatrical and confrontational style reflects generational angst, political unrest, and contemporary absurdities, establishing them as a standout act in Berlin’s music scene. Since their inception in 2023, the band has garnered widespread recognition, culminating in a collaboration with A Place To Bury Strangers for an upcoming UK & Irish tour. City Slang’s reissue of Die Anstalt’s debut album underscores the trio’s rising profile and artistic prowess.
