Staind Compilation Album Returns to Billboard 200 31 Years After Band Formed
After more than thirty years since its inception, the American rock band Staind has made a surprising comeback to the Billboard 200 chart. The band’s compilation album, The Singles: 1996→2006, has re-entered the rankings at No. 195, a remarkable achievement for a collection released nearly two decades ago. This unexpected resurgence on the charts marks a significant milestone for the group, emerging 31 years after its formation in 1995.
Originally hailing from Springfield, Massachusetts, Staind was formed by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Aaron Lewis, guitarist Mike Mushok, bassist Johnny April, and drummer Jon Wysocki. The band quickly rose to fame in the post-grunge and alternative rock scene of the early 2000s.
Released in November 2006 by Atlantic Records, The Singles: 1996→2006 was a retrospective compilation of some of the band’s greatest hits from the first decade of its career. Accompanied by a DVD titled Staind: The Videos, the album featured chart-topping tracks like “It’s Been Awhile,” “For You,” “Epiphany,” “So Far Away,” “Price to Play,” “Zoe Jane,” and “Right Here.”
The compilation also included a remastered version of “Come Again” from the band’s independent debut album, Tormented, as well as live recordings from a 2006 performance at New York City’s Hiro Ballroom. Among the live tracks were cover versions of songs by popular bands like Alice in Chains, Tool, and Pink Floyd.
Staind’s recent resurgence on the charts comes as the band gears up for several major projects. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of its breakout album, Break the Cycle, the band announced additional performances and a North American tour featuring Seether, Hoobastank, and Hinder.
Break the Cycle, released in 2001, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spawned hits like “It’s Been Awhile,” which became the band’s signature song. The album went on to achieve five-times platinum status in the US and sold millions of copies worldwide. Other fan favorites from the record include tracks like “Fade,” “Outside,” “For You,” and “Epiphany.”
Looking ahead, Staind is set to release its ninth studio album, following 2023’s Confessions of the Fallen, the band’s first new studio album in over a decade. Guitarist Mike Mushok hinted at the band’s continued evolution in sound, suggesting that the upcoming album would explore newer musical directions introduced in their previous record.
With a storied history that began in Massachusetts clubs in the mid-90s, Staind’s remarkable return to the Billboard 200 in 2026 with a collection of greatest hits from 2006 underscores the enduring appeal of their music. As the band continues to captivate long-time fans and attract new listeners, their legacy in the rock music scene remains as strong as ever.
