Portland-based indie rock band, Strange Pilgrim, has unveiled their latest single, “Through the Branches,” a track that offers a glimpse into the reflective and serene themes of their upcoming album, “Too Bright Planet,” slated for release on September 26th, 2025, under Royal Oakie Records. Helmed by lead vocalist and songwriter Josh Barnhart, the new iteration of the band features musicians Pat Spurgeon of Rogue Wave and The Dandy Warhols, as well as Elliott Kay, who collectively contribute to an evolution of their sound from the dream-pop roots of their debut album released in 2022.

Describing the essence of the new single, Barnhart articulates that “Through the Branches” encapsulates the essence of a wandering mind contemplating thoughts during periods of isolation and solitude. He expresses how the song embodies the duality of emotions experienced during times of uncertainty, emphasizing the beauty within these fleeting moments of quiet contemplation and the subtle illumination found in the natural world. The interplay of bright, cascading guitars and a steady rhythmic foundation within the track mirrors the lyrical journey from desolation to finding solace in the evolving seasons.

Drawing inspiration from a diverse array of influences such as The Grateful Dead, Brian Eno, and the cinematic works of Wim Wenders, the entire album, “Too Bright Planet,” delves into themes of acceptance and renewal. Recorded live at Bocce Recording in Vancouver, WA, the album promises a spacious and moody sonic landscape reminiscent of the early 1970s sounds of Fleetwood Mac and Luna’s critically acclaimed “Penthouse” album. This new set of songs showcases the evolution of the band, transitioning from the disconnected tones of their debut to a more grounded and explorative approach to their musical expression.

The band encourages listeners to pre-order their upcoming album via Bandcamp, providing an opportunity to delve into the depth and breadth of their musical journey. The release of “Through the Branches” offers a glimpse into Strange Pilgrim’s evolving musical narrative, promising an auditory experience that marries introspection with an expansive sonic palette, sure to resonate with fans of indie rock and dream-pop. Through their introspective lyrics and dynamic musical arrangements, Strange Pilgrim invites audiences to traverse the emotional landscapes and ethereal soundscapes they have meticulously crafted on “Too Bright Planet.”
