The Michigan-based alt-folk group, The Accidentals, maintain a busy schedule balancing studio work and concert performances. The band’s members are involved in various side projects, with Sav Madigan touring and providing backing vocals for Lainey Wilson, Katie Larson playing with Brett Young’s band, and Katelynn Corll recently returning from a European tour with Joanne Shaw Taylor. Despite their individual pursuits, they remain dedicated to their collective work as The Accidentals.

The trio recently completed their collaborative studio album, “Time Out #3,” set for release in August. Additionally, they are gearing up for a special all-female concert at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, showcasing female artists they have collaborated with, including Patty PerShayla, The Burney Sisters, Roxi Jane, and Emma Zinck. The band is also busy working on a holiday album with Cleveland’s Kaboom Collective and Sav Madigan is simultaneously working on a solo project.

Their approach to music is characterized by exploration and experimentation, allowing them to engage in a variety of projects without feeling tied down. They value the freedom to pursue different musical avenues while staying connected as a band. The Accidentals have forged a strong bond over their 13 years together, with a shared appreciation for their journey and the opportunities music has afforded them.

They emphasize the importance of writing and co-writing, seeing it as a transformative and therapeutic process. Collaborations with various songwriters have enriched their sound, with each member bringing a unique perspective to the table. The band’s latest album features songs co-written with artists such as David Wilcox, Mary Bragg, Kim Richey, Gary Burr, and Georgia Middleman, with Bragg contributing as a producer on half of the tracks.

The Accidentals approach their music with a sense of playfulness and openness, allowing for creative exploration and growth. They are gearing up for more shows in Michigan, including the Meijer Gardens concert and their annual appearance at “Concerts in the Park” in Sparta. Despite the challenges of recent times, they express their love for performing in their home state and the special connection they feel returning to Michigan.

In a recent edition of the Local Spins Michigan Music Showcase, The Accidentals highlighted tracks from their upcoming album, along with new music from other Michigan artists. Their commitment to showcasing local talent and engaging with their community reflects their deep-rooted passion for music and creativity. The band’s multifaceted approach to their craft continues to resonate with audiences and fellow musicians alike, solidifying their presence in the alt-folk scene.
