Former beauty school student makes comeback in Cleveland with new music at Grog Shop show

Despite having several previous releases, the band considers this 14-track album to be their official debut album. Lead singer Hutzler expressed that they view their previous works as more like EPs or experimental projects, whereas they feel this latest album truly captures their intended sound.”Not to say it won’t evolve, because it always does, but we very much so feel like this is the first time we’ve had the opportunity to sit back, think everything through, be so intentional, be undistracted, and be very, very thorough with the process,” Hutzler explained.
The process of creating this album was a rigorous one. After a hectic touring schedule in 2023, where they performed over 150 shows in a span of 10 months, the band faced exhaustion. However, this burnout led them to take a step back and focus on their music, eventually resulting in the birth of “Where Did All The Butterflies Go?” For Hutzler and the band, this album represents a culmination of years of hard work and dedication to their craft.
Their journey to this album was not without its share of challenges and growth opportunities. From playing small venues to large festivals, opening for renowned bands like Blink-182, and even embarking on a successful European tour, Beauty School Dropout has learned valuable lessons along the way. Hutzler emphasized that it was a process of constant learning, facing failures, and pushing themselves to meet the demands of each new experience.
In the creation of the album, the band wrote over 100 songs before collaborating with producer Neal Avron to select the final 14 tracks. Hutzler shared that this album incorporates new sounds and influences, showcasing their versatility beyond their traditional pop-punk and indie rock roots. Songs like “Adeline (Save Some for the Rest of Us),” “Daddy Don’t Cry,” and “Sex Appeal” reveal a softer, more vulnerable side of the band while still maintaining their signature energetic sound.
The title track, “Where Did All The Butterflies Go?” holds a special significance for the band. It represents a period of uncertainty and dissatisfaction in their journey, a metaphor for losing the initial excitement and passion for their craft. Hutzler shared that the title is symbolic of their experience and growth as a band, acknowledging the challenges they faced while finding their way back to their true essence.
Looking ahead, Beauty School Dropout already has plans for a 2026 tour, including a spring run with Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) and Wiz Khalifa. Hutzler expressed his gratitude and excitement for the upcoming opportunity, reflecting on a conversation he had with Wiz Khalifa at the gym where they both train. Despite being an accomplished Muay Thai practitioner, Hutzler humorously admitted that Wiz Khalifa is the superior fighter between the two.
As the band gears up for their show at the Grog Shop, fans can expect an electrifying performance that showcases their evolution as artists. With a renewed sense of purpose and creativity, Beauty School Dropout is poised to captivate audiences with their unique blend of genres and heartfelt lyrics.
