Family in Rock Hill claims man singled out residence following 19-year-old’s death last weekend

A Rock Hill family is reeling after a man targeted their home following the tragic killing of their 19-year-old daughter, Camariya Tidwell. Tidwell was described as a kind and reserved individual who deeply cared for her family. Her mother, Shifarnia McCullough, emphasized Tidwell’s angelic nature, stating that she was always willing to help others without expecting anything in return.

The incident occurred on Saturday, May 16, when Tidwell was fatally shot in her family’s front yard on Mt. Gallant Road around 11 p.m. The family later shared video footage of a man who had visited their home earlier that day. McCullough revealed that her niece recognized the man as someone who had recently performed work on her car. This prompted the family to contact the police and set off an investigation.

Lieutenant Michael Chavis detailed the law enforcement’s response to the incident, mentioning that they swiftly acted upon receiving a suspect vehicle description. They were able to locate a previous address associated with the suspect and enlisted the York County Sheriff’s Office’s help in tracking him down. Later that same evening, the family captured footage of a man with a firearm running through their yard, leading to a second call to the police.

The suspected gunman, identified as 34-year-old Sean Hubbard, was ultimately arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Additionally, he faced an additional warrant for discharging a firearm into a home. Prior to the fatal shooting, the family had reported another incident on May 12 involving a man firing at their home. Despite their calls to the police and vigilant monitoring of the situation, they were devastated by Tidwell’s tragic death and expressed feeling that more could have been done to prevent it.

McCullough expressed her devastation at losing her daughter, emphasizing Tidwell’s bright future and remarkable character. She stressed that Tidwell was a promising individual who had her whole life ahead of her. The police reassured the public that they are committed to following up on all calls and encourage anyone who feels unsafe to reach out to them for assistance.
