Des Rocs finds spiritual nourishment on journey to hell and back
New York’s Des Rocs, led by Danny Rocco, is on a mission of rock ‘n’ roll revivalism, aiming to “Desrocify” modern music. According to Rocco, his live shows provide a profound and intense experience, much like a great film, leaving audiences with a sense of spiritual nourishment seldom found in today’s music scene.
The upcoming third album, “To Hell And Back,” set for release on June 12th, not only embodies Des Rocs’ loud and fiery sonic qualities but also signifies the personal and professional journey Rocco has undergone over the years. Despite facing challenges like a serious spinal injury, Rocco pushed himself and his band to record the album live, capturing the raw energy of their performances for the first time.
Rocco’s creative vision for his albums always includes considering how they will translate to the live stage. He emphasizes the importance of the live presentation, constantly thinking about it during the writing, recording, and production stages.
The new album kicks off with an energetic introduction by DJ Kool, known for the 1996 hit “Let Me Clear My Throat,” setting the tone for the emotional and rocking journey that follows. One standout track, “Fall Together,” features cinematic strings reminiscent of a Bond theme, laced with a rugged edge that Rocco describes as “bedroom arena rock.” Collaborating with producer Joe Chiccarelli, he aims to blend a DIY approach with live tracking, striking a balance between classic and innovative sounds.
New York City serves as a vital backdrop for Des Rocs’ creative process, influencing both the project’s inception and the latest music. Rocco infuses the chaotic city atmosphere into his work, creating immersive and adventurous tracks like “The Riders Of Red Hook,” inspired by his experiences in the Brooklyn neighborhood.
Despite the challenges and sacrifices, such as discomfort from his custom Aviator guitar, nicknamed “The Rocket,” Rocco remains committed to his rock music journey. Embracing a larger-than-life sound and image, he finds fulfillment in the creatively and artistically rewarding endeavor of making rock music.
Reflecting on the transformative journey of creating “To Hell And Back,” Des Rocs’ unwavering dedication to pushing musical boundaries underscores their commitment to delivering a unique and emotionally resonant rock ‘n’ roll experience.
