John Lodge, the long-standing bass guitarist, singer, and songwriter for The Moody Blues, has passed away at the age of 82.

In a statement posted on Facebook, his family announced, “John Lodge, our dear husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, and brother, has been unexpectedly taken from us.” While the cause of death was not disclosed, he peacefully passed away in the company of his loved ones while listening to The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly.

Born in Birmingham, England, on July 20, 1943, Lodge was gifted his first Fender bass guitar at the age of 16. Alongside his high school friend Ray Thomas, Lodge co-founded El Riot & the Rebels. In 1966, Thomas invited Lodge to join The Moody Blues as their new bass guitarist, following the departure of Denny Laine. The band’s lineup also included Justin Hayward, Mike Pinder, and Graeme Edge.

Lodge remained an integral part of The Moody Blues until their touring activities ceased in 2019. He found his true joy on stage, living out his passion as a ‘Singer in a Rock and Roll Band’ and relishing every moment of performing with his bandmates and son-in-law, Jon (Anderson, renowned YES vocalist).

John Lodge’s incredible musical journey spanned over 50 years as he delivered timeless classics such as “I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)” and “Ride My See-Saw.” His musical genius and contributions to the music industry will forever be cherished and remembered by fans around the world.
