It was a bit daunting to think about introducing all new material to the audience, but eventually, we decided to go ahead with it. We also included some of the older songs that fans have been longing to hear. I didn’t want to deprive people of those classics.”
After the success of his previous album, Rattle That Lock in 2015, Gilmour hinted that fans wouldn’t have to wait as long for his next release. He expressed his commitment by saying, “That’s what I’ve promised. Let’s hope I can stay true to it.” He disclosed that he had plenty of partially formed ideas for songs, melodies, and compositions in progress, but he preferred not to call them songs until they had lyrics.
The concert film, Live At The Circus Maximus, Rome, directed by Gavin Elder, made its global debut in cinemas and IMAX on September 17th, with home releases following on October 17th. The live album, The Luck And Strange Concerts, showcases 23 tracks that seamlessly blend Gilmour’s new material with timeless Pink Floyd classics. Offering deluxe editions with immersive 5.1 and Atmos mixes and a 120-page photo book by Polly Samson, both releases serve as a comprehensive representation of Gilmour’s remarkable return to the stage.
When asked about why he selected Rome, Italy as the location for the concert film, Gilmour explained, “Well, it’s Italy, it’s Rome, it’s beautiful venues. These places have an atmosphere that is simply captivating. The Circus Maximus, much like the Amphitheater in Pompeii, exudes a magical aura. You can sense the history and spirit of the place, with people having walked there for centuries, giving it a unique and spiritual energy.”
